Faro Airport Transfers & Taxis
The taxi rank at Faro Airport is close to the exit from the arrivals hall and is signposted from inside the terminal building. Official taxis are easy to identify with most being coloured in a distinctive black and green scheme, but some are ivory/beige. By Portuguese law, no other private vehicles can use these colours. Only use the official taxis as unofficial vehicles may not be adequately licensed or insured.
The government sets taxi rates and all the official vehicles must have a meter fitted to comply with the legislation. Supplements are added for certain extras such as carrying luggage in the boot. Also, any tolls incurred on the route to your destination, and the driver’s return journey, will be added to the fare at the end of the journey. There may be alternative toll-free routes but the longer journey time might not make it any cheaper. If you are not sure, establish any extras with the driver before travelling.
Faro taxi drivers have a reputation for being friendly, helpful and honest, and most speak at least a little English. You might be unlucky enough to find a less scrupulous driver who maybe takes a longer route than necessary. If you think this is the case, get a receipt stating the price, the origin and destination of the journey and make a complaint.
For people with reduced mobility, adapted taxis are available and can be identified by the accessibility sign. You can request one of these vehicles at the information desks in the airport, by asking another taxi driver or by phoning the numbers posted on the information boards at the taxi ranks.

Alternative Transport
Taxis are convenient for short journeys but, for getting from the airport to your resort and back, it is more cost-effective to pre-book a private transfer.
By booking online in advance you have the peace of mind of knowing that your transport will be waiting for you at the airport and the driver will meet you in the arrivals hall. The price is also fixed so there are no surprises. The vehicle will be the appropriate size for your party and will take you straight to your accommodation. If you’d like a little more luxury, you can even book an executive car with your own chauffeur.
Another option is a shared transfer which is also booked in advance at a price per head. This will be in a large minibus or coach, depending on the number of other passengers. A shared transfer is the cheaper option but, as there might be several stops on the way, it is slower than a private transfer. Often, shared transfers will not drop off at private addresses but only at holiday complexes or hotels.
Transfer driver and vehicles are regulated and are required to meet certain standards making this a safe and convenient form of transport.
